It’s never too early to start planning for your retirement. No matter what your life stage, taking control of your savings and investments is the first step to ensuring a comfortable post-working life.

According to a recent study by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA), the estimated cost for living a comfortable 25-year retirement in Australia is almost $1.43 million a person! And with the rising cost of living in this country, this figure is only likely to keep on growing! Terrifying thought isn't it…

Transition to Retirement Strategy

If you're over 55 and looking to increase your retirement income, you can take advantage of the Government "Transition to Retirement (TTR)" measure which could put you ahead; potentially by tens of thousands of dollars and is a highly tax-effective strategy.

Previously, you could only access your superannuation upon your retirement at the age of 65 - however the Government TTR measure means you can access your superannuation at the age of 55 - and gain tax benefits - without having to retire or leave your job.

While the program is officially termed "Transition to Retirement," actual retirement might still be years away for you. However, this strategy could still be used to maximise your current income, save tax and have the flexibility to continue working until you retire.
